LEWISTON – The Bates College Choir and the Bates Modern Dance Company will give separate performances Friday and Saturday, March 26 and 27.

Lecturer in Music John Corrie will direct the Bates College Choir and a 25-piece orchestra in Fauré’s Requiem and Mozart’s Mass in C (“Coronation”) at 8 p.m. both evenings.

The concerts take place in the Olin Arts Center concert hall, 75 Russell St. For more information, people can call (207) 786-6135.

A vintage piece of choreography is featured in the Bates College Modern Dance Company’s two performances in Schaeffer Theatre, 305 College St., at 8 p.m. Friday, March 26, and 4 p.m. Saturday, March 27. For additional information, people can call (207) 786-6161.

The program for this annual spring concert of new works includes Alwin Nikolais’ 1953 “Part of a larger piece titled.” Nikolais choreographed the piece, composed the music, designed the lighting and costumes, and devised the use of the elastic bands. New York choreographer Tito (Alberto del Saz) visited Bates in January to teach the piece to the Bates dancers.

Two students from Maine – Saida Cooper, a senior from St. Albans, and Alex Smith, a sophomore from South Portland – are among the nine Bates students and faculty choreographers presenting pieces under the direction of Carol Dilley, who is co-director of the Bates dance program with Marcy Plavin.

The public is welcome to attend the performances at no charge.
