1931 – 2004
AUBURN – Margaret Jean Beauparlant of Auburn, passed away on March 24, after a long, valiant struggle with cancer.
A daughter of John E. and Mary F. McCarthy, she was born in Lewiston, on June 10, 1931, and a life-long resident of the Twin Cities.
“Jean,” as she was known by family and friends, graduated from Lewiston High School in 1949. She attended St. Joseph’s College in Windham for one semester and then graduated from Auburn Maine School of Commerce in 1951.
She worked several years at Hall and Knight, followed by many years as the receptionist and switchboard operator at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. For the last 22 years, she was employed as the concierge at Bates College.
She was a very caring and giving individual who always made certain that the people around her were well taken care of. She frequently opened her home to the Bates’ students unable to be with their own families during the holidays and she made sure that those who were working had a warm home-cooked meal. The students reciprocated her kindness with letters, flowers and personal visits years after graduating from the college.
An avid Boston Red Sox fan, her face lit up when talking about her favorite baseball team. Although ill through much of this last season, she never failed to watch the televised games and even kept abreast of the management changes. She was actively involved with the International Sorority of Beta Sigma Phi, Laureate Chapter, where she is one of only two 50-year members.
A parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, she leaves behind her devoted husband of 47 years, Maurice Beauparlant of Auburn; her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Greg Mutersbaugh of Falls Church, Va.; and a niece and nephew. She was much loved by many and will be greatly missed.
