TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Southern Maine rallied for four runs in the fifth ining and three more in the sixth to defeat North Central College.
Trailing 2-1 heading into the fifth, the Huskies (4-4-1) pounded out five hits and took advantage of a costly error by the Cardinals (4-4) to score four times.
After Ryan Bourque and Greg Stacy scored on an infield error, Colin Loveless and Adam Lemieux had RBI singles to make it 5-2.
The Huskies added three insurance runs in the sixth on an RBI double by Stacy, an RBI single by St. Onge and Loveless’ second RBI single.
Starting pitcher Tip Fairchild (2-0) pitched 8 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits and two walks while striking out nine.
