The school budget increases for the coming year.

COPLIN PLANTATION – Twenty-four of the community’s 135 residents were present to take part in the annual town meeting at the Stratton Community Building on Saturday.

John Dill was chosen to moderate the meeting in which residents voted to pass all 48 warrant articles in just under an hour.

The following town officials were re-elected for three-year terms: Ivah Palmer, town clerk; Connie Morin, assessor; and Linda Lowell, School Committee

Residents voted to appropriate $8,200 for town officers’ salaries, an increase of $3,390 from last year.

Voters approved the ambulance subsidy of $4,746, $10,085 for fire protection from the town of Eustis and $22,000 for summer and winter road maintenance and repairs.

In addition, voters agreed to authorize the Board of Selectman to appoint the offices of constable, road commissioner, and a surveyor of wood, bark and lumber.

Voters approved $14,247 for the Eustis transfer station and transferred $3,492 from the Sandy River Recycling Association and $283 from Dump/Solid Waste Study accounts to offset the total cost of the transfer station.

The town voted in favor of funding for many organizations which serve Coplin Plantation residents including: American Red Cross ($135), Blanchard Park ($321), Stratton Library ($2,227), Stratton Little League ($120), Food Pantry ($200), Stratton Community Building ($1,000), Maine Public Broadcasting ($100), Seniors Plus ($100), Franklin County Animal Shelter ($169), Androscoggin Home Health Services ($122) and the Youth Program ($2431).

The school funding request of $176,731 was approved.

The budget for fiscal year 2004-2005 was increased from the $161,180 approved for fiscal year 2003-2004.

The town also voted to add the $5,529 received from the state for transporting students in the unorganized territories to the school bus reserve account. The School bus reserve account now stands at $31,045.

In addition, voters approved an additional $15,000 for Stratton Elementary School to be spent as follows: literacy programs ($5,000), school sports uniforms ($500), art supplies ($1,000), music and band ($1,000), sports equipment ($1,000), student field trips ($1,000), technology labs and computer equipment ($4,500) and special programs and other services ($1000).
