1930-2004

LEWISTON – Normand N. Labbe, 73, of 85 Morse Ave., died Saturday, March 27, at d’Youville Pavilion with his family at his side.

He was born in Lewiston, May 5, 1930, the son of David and Diane (St. Hilaire) Labbe.

He was educated in the grammar schools of Lewiston and was a 1947 graduate of Lewiston High School.

On May 12, 1951 he married the former Noella Boucher. She died in 1967.

On Sept. 12, 1980, he married the former Lorraine C. Rivard in Lewiston. In 1958, Mr. Labbe joined the Lewiston Fire Department where he served until 1971, retiring at the Rank of Captain. While a member of Lewiston Fire Department, Mr. Labbe also served as president of the Local Firefighters Union # 785.

In 1972, he was elected Androscoggin County Treasurer and served in the position until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Labbe was a member of Holy Family Parish, the Maine County Commissioners Association and the National Association of Counties. He also in the past had served as a director of the Community Credit Union.

He enjoyed several interests including, cooking, hunting, woodworking, carpentry and was an avid gardener, having enjoyed giving many of his vegetables to neighbors, friends and relatives. For the past several years Mr. Labbe also very much had enjoyed wintering with his wife in New Port Richie, Fla.

Survivors include: his wife of 23 years of Lewiston; one daughter, Miss Nancy T. Labbe of Sanford; one son, David N. Labbe of Greene; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Jacqueline P.) Le Clair of Lewiston; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jeannette Michaud of Hartford, Conn., and Mrs. Yoland Bilodeau of Lewiston; and one very special cousin Normand R. (Blackie) Labbe who shared along with Mr. Labbe a brotherly love for each other.
