1924 – 2004

ROCHESTER, N.H. – Chandler A. Dufresne, 79, of 16 Watson Dr., died Sunday, March 28, at his home, following a period of failing health.

Born in Manchester, N.H., Nov. 5, 1924, the son of the late Harry and Silva (Caswell) Dufresne, he was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1942.

After graduating, he worked as a pipe fitter for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during World War II. He also worked for 26 years as a civilian employee for the Water and Sewer Depts. at Pease Air Force Base, where he retired from in 1980. He also delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for York County for 15 years.

Mr. Dufresne was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rochester, N.H. He was also a member of several organizations, including the St. Aspiquid Lodge, AF&AM 198 of York, AARP, NARFE, the Kora Shrine of Lewiston, the York County Shrine Club and the Lodge Council Chapter Consistory. He was a past patron of Sarah Orne Jewett Chapter 176 O.E.S. and a former member of the Kiwanis of Cornish.

Mr. Dufresne loved to hunt and fish. He was very fond of his fishing trips to both Labrador and Canada.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Elizabeth (Holbrook) Dufresne of Rochester, N.H.; four children, Elizabeth Martin of Tenants Harbor, Allan E.Wright of Barrington, N.H., Sylvia Hull of Sabattus and William Dufresne of Rochester, N.H.; three stepchildren, Ruth Dufresne of Rochester, N.H., Rachel Hanna of Somersworth, N.H., and Jay Christiansen of Lebanon; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one brother, Lee Babb, living in Florida.

Mr. Dufresne was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Robie) Dufresne July 18, 1987; his brothers, Harry and Addison Dufresne and George Babb and his sister, Celia Dame.
