FARMINGTON – Holy Week services at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church on the corner of Academy and Main streets begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 4, with a Palm Sunday procession with palms and banners.

A dramatic reading of the passion narrative from the Gospel of Luke will remind people of how quickly the joy of Palm Sunday turned into the anger of Good Friday. Readers include the Rev. Susan Crane, Dan Woodward, Steve Russell, Ben Russell, Robin Barron, Gary Wolcott, Skip Wyman, Jack Anderson, John Logan, Pete Tracy and Rick Williams. The service also includes a story for children. All are welcome.

A Maundy Thursday remembrance will be held to recall Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples starting at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in Fellowship Hall. A light supper will be prepared by the church Diaconate and will be served as the words of Jesus recorded in the Gospel of John are read. Following the meal, a service of communion and Tenebrae will be held at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. The term Tenebrae means “lengthening of the shadows” and refers to the practice of extinguishing candles as the account of Jesus’ last hours is re-told. All are welcome.

A community Good Friday Service, sponsored by Farmington Area Ecumenical Movement, will be hosted by Henderson Memorial from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, April 9. Worshipers are invited to participate for as long as they are able.

The service will include five meditations on the cross by local clergy, interspersed with time for silent reflection, prayer and traditional hymns. Speakers include the Rev. Scott Planting, Rev. Kathryn McGregor, Rev. Cathie Wallace, Rev. Marcia Charles and Rev. Tim Walmer. Father Roger McGregor and Rev. Susan Crane will read from the Hebrew scriptures, with music by organist Robin Ann Barron and tenor soloist Daniel Woodward. The community is invited.

Easter Sunday worship will begin at 10:30 a.m., following Sunday School classes for all ages at 9 a.m. at Henderson Memorial. Rev. Dr. Susan Crane’s sermon title is Because He Lives. The community is invited.
