It was the second incident in three days involving
a BB shooting.
AUBURN – The person who fired a BB into a man’s chest Sunday night may still be on a rampage, police said Tuesday.
Several more homes and businesses were struck by BBs Tuesday after a similar spree on Sunday caused thousands of dollars in damages.
A man who was struck by one of the BBs Sunday night was released from the hospital with the BB still lodged in his chest.
Police said the victim of the shooting was walking on Main Street when he was struck by a BB fired from a passing car.
The BB passed through the man’s coat and lodged in his chest. Medical officials later decided to leave the BB rather than risk trying to remove it, police said.
The person who fired the shot could be charged with aggravated assault or a more serious charge once he or she is caught, police said.
Investigators believe the shooter is the same person responsible for firing BBs at more than a half-dozen homes and businesses in Lewiston and Auburn over the past three days.
No other injuries have been reported, but police in Auburn said they have detectives and several officers working on the case.
By late Tuesday night, no arrests had been made. Police were asking that anyone with information about the shootings phone them at 784-7332. The investigation is being led by Detective Mitchell Sweetser.
