BUCKFIELD – Aymie Walshe spoke about plans for the Maine Democratic Convention to Oxford County Democrats gathered for a potluck supper and business meeting Thursday at Buckfield High School.

Walshe, Maine Democratic Party executive director, said highlights of the convention being held in Portland May 21-23 will include the official balloting for national convention delegates as well as the adoption of the party platform and election of representatives to the Democratic National Committee.

Sam Spencer of Portland, candidate for national committeeman, was present and addressed the group.

County Chairperson Cathy Newell announced that Democrats from Oxford County towns who would like to attend the convention as delegates or alternates but were not elected at the February caucuses should contact her at 875-2116 or e-mail her at [email protected].

There is a process for filling delegate slots for towns where elected delegates and alternates are unable to attend.

Rep. Rosita Gagne-Friel presented the legislative report, representing Sen. Bruce Bryant and Rep. John Patrick, who were unable to attend. She highlighted the various plans for tax reform, progress on Dirigo Health Care, the laptop initiative, and the budget process.

Treasurer Mike Broderick of Bethel outlined plans for upcoming activities.
