1924 – 2004

LEWISTON – Fernand Thomas Tremblay, 80, of Lewiston, died March 29, at St. Marguerite d’Youville Nursing Facility after a brief illness.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1924, in Lewiston’s “Little Canada,” the son of Camille and Olivine Chabot Tremblay. He attended Lewiston schools, including Robert’s Business College.

During World War II, he served from 1943 1945 in Europe in 916 HAM (Heavy Automobile Maintenance) Company of the U.S. Army. He received an honorable discharge in 1946, having attained the rank of Sergeant.

He stayed in Germany for a brief time after the war, working in the civilian corps, and on March 29, 1946, married Argentine M. Pipinato, of Denain, France, in Brussels, Belgium. They returned to Lewiston later that year.

Mr. Tremblay was a meat cutter, salesman, and business owner throughout his life. Along with his wife, he owned and operated Argentine’s French Style Restaurant, in Turner, from 1973 to 1991.

Mr. Tremblay lived his entire life in Lewiston and was a parishioner of Holy Family Church. He enjoyed going for drives with his wife, playing cards and other games with his children, and spending time with family.

Mr. Tremblay was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed for his kindness, wonderful sense of humor, and steadfast devotion to his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Argentine; his daughter, Francine and her husband Jean Ouellette of Phippsburg; two sons, Claude and his wife Barbara of Greenville, S.C., and Andre and his wife, Kathryn of Bow, N.H.; two grandchildren, Daniele and her husband James Levy, and James Ouellette; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Tremblay was predeceased by his half-brother, Roland; and two half-sisters, Lucienne Sheehy and Cecile Labbe.
