1915 – 2004
AUBURN – Robert L. “Mac” Macdonald, 88, of Poland, died Sunday afternoon, March 28, at Clover Manor with his family at his side.
He was born in Lynn, Mass., Dec. 12, 1915, a son of Leslie and Mildred (Halliday) Macdonald. He was educated in Massachusetts schools, graduated from Lynn English High School and then graduated from Brown University in 1937.
On June 10, 1938, he married the former Antoinette Labonte. “Mac” was a Veteran of the Military having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, retiring as a Lieutenant. Mr. Macdonald worked over 40 years for the W.T. Grant Co. Department Stores beginning in 1937, until his retirement and was a Store Manager for many of those years. As an avid golfer, he was a member of Fairlawn Country Club and was a former member of UCT. He also enjoyed fishing and was a big sports fan but especially loved watching football on TV.
For many years he and Anne greatly enjoyed spending summers at Taylor Pond where they developed many special friendships lasting many years. During his working career he and his wife lived in several different places but chose to retire to Poland.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Antoinette of Poland; two sons, Peter Macdonald and wife Helen of Scarborough and James Macdonald and wife Janice of Hamden, Conn.; three grandchildren, Michael, Heather, Brian and wife Leigh Macdonald; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Morgan Macdonald.
