Rick Greene wants to open a lot on the site of the former Webber Fuel Building.

LIVERMORE FALLS – Two more businesses received approval from the Planning Board last week, both pending state reviews.

Rick Greene presented a plan for use of the former Webber Fuel (Moore Fuel) Building on Park Street as a used car lot similar to the one he now runs on the same street nearer to Shuy Corner.

He serves as the business manager with the actual applicant listed as Corena M. Douin of 137 Park St.

Greene said he has contacted the Department of Environmental Protection regarding the previous clean-up of the area and said 91 tons of waste soil had been removed and that it was all clear as the tanks had all been above ground.

He will do repairs at his present site, which is for sale, and use this new lot as his secondary one. He may move to the new site if the old one sells, he said.

Greene plans to use the cement buttress for a retaining wall and enlarge the parking area so he can have up to 80 parking spaces. After the purchase closing, the DEP will do a site review and he cannot park vehicles on the lot until after he has been licensed by the state.

Waldo Souther and Donna Dube presented their plan to open a restaurant/convenience store, Donna’s Country Kettle, in the former upholstery shop on Route 17. They will serve fast food and feature daily specials on their menu.

They hope to be open in three weeks and plan to be open seven days a week, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Before that, they have to approach the town and state for a liquor license but did receive Planning Board approval.

Neighbors and town officials expressed concern that the area be kept neat and rubbish free. Town Manager Alan Gove urged the couple to follow the town’s recycling regulations. “Recycling is a business responsibility,” he said.

Code Enforcement Office Brenda Medcoff reported that Jim Howes wants to set up a shed in which to restart his small engine repair business on Route 133, which burned recently. The board found no problems except that he may have originally applied as a home occupation.

The code enforcement officer will research that as well as whether SAD 36 needs to file a site plan for proposed expansion of its athletic field complex.

A proposed pawn shop ordinance will be further researched and a residential/commercial building notification ordinance will be sent to the selectmen for their review.

The board voted to change its regular meeting night from the third to the first Wednesday of the month to avoid school vacation and holiday weeks, so the next meeting will be on April 7.
