VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Bubba Trammell’s comeback bid with the Los Angeles Dodgers ended Wednesday when the veteran outfielder was released.
Trammell signed with the Dodgers in January and hoped to return to the major leagues after leaving the New York Yankees last summer because of depression. He batted .255 with three homers and 10 RBIs in 20 games this spring.
Manager Jim Tracy said the acquisitions of outfielders Jason Grabowski and Jayson Werth the last three days didn’t leave much playing time for Trammell.
The Dodgers only used Trammell in left and right this spring.
Trammell hit a three-run homer Tuesday in his final game with the Dodgers.
“I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Bubba is playing in the big leagues for someone else this season,” DePodesta said.
The Dodgers owe Trammell 45 days of termination pay. The commissioner’s office already is paying Trammell $1.55 million this year because of a settlement that was reached after he left the Yankees.
Trammell couldn’t be reached for comment.
