1912 – 2004

NORWAY – Dorothy Libby Childs, 92, of Bryant Pond, died April 1, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

Born in Gardiner, April 1, 1912, the daughter of Arthur E. and May Belle (Elliott) Libby, she was educated in Gardiner schools and graduated from Gardiner High School in 1929.

After graduation she went to work for the telephone company in Gardiner. She married Harlan Childs on July 17, 1937, and he died in 1961. She worked at the West Paris Post Office and Penley’s Mill for several years. She also worked at Perham’s of West Paris for 13 years and at the Augusta Mental Health Institute for 13 years as a nurses aid. She was a life member of the O.E.S.

Survivors include her son, David Childs and his wife, Merry of Bryant Pond; one sister, Helen Libby McAlister of Portland; two grandchildren, William Childs of Greenwood and Gina Childs of Bryant Pond; and five great-grandchildren, Erin Childs, Ashley Childs and Liam Childs, all of Greenwood and Wayland Picchiotti and Alec Fowles, both of Bryant Pond.

She was predeceased by one sister, Gladys Glidden.
