WILTON – Selectmen will meet behind closed doors at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to continue discussions about an offer from Phillips Van Heusen Corp. for the Bass distribution center building beside the town office on Weld Street.

The regular meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the town office.

During the regular session, officials will discuss signing a letter of support for a state constitutional amendment to cap state spending addressed to Rep. Tom Saviello.

Saviello, along with a group of 26 Democrats and Republicans and one Independent have been working on a proposal for property tax relief and tax reform. The proposal includes property tax relief, government spending controls, and budget and tax neutral revenue with nine components.

Those components include a state spending cap, an increase in school funding and homestead exemption, changes to the revenue sharing program, a homestead tax and homestead land values cap, raising the state sales tax by one cent, and Gov. John Baldacci’s proposed incentives for rationalization and shared services.

Officials will also continue their review of the proposed 2004-2005 municipal budget. They plan to set a date to meet with the Finance Committee.

Selectmen will hear a quarterly report from the fire department and update mutual aid agreements with surrounding towns. They will also consider awarding a bid for asphalt mulch and hear a report from the town manager.
