BOSTON (AP) – Federal authorities said Monday they had made 60 arrests around New England in a weeklong roundup of alleged criminal alien fugitives.

All of those arrested previously had been ordered deported for offenses ranging from assault and battery to threatening murder, but none had left the country.

The arrests were made by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention and removal officers.

In New Hampshire, arrests were made in Dover, Manchester, Nashua, Portsmouth, Salem and Seabrook. In Maine, an arrest was made in Gardiner. None of the 60 arrests was in Vermont, ICE said.

“ICE is committed to reducing the number of dangerous criminals hiding in New England communities,” said ICE Field Office Director Bruce E. Chadbourne. “This should be a strong message to those fugitive aliens trying to avoid deportation that ICE is out there and ICE will track you down and effect your departure from the U.S.”
