AUBURN – Local historians will take on the roles of Androscoggin County’s first appointed leaders Wednesday.

Members of the Androscoggin Historical Society will re-enact the first meeting of the Androscoggin County commissioners beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the County Building.

The commissioners’ first agenda was short and the topics weren’t controversial.

Then Commissioners Job Chase of Turner, Emery S. Warren of Durham and Stephen H. Read of Lewiston voted to let the county treasurer buy office supplies and appointed a coroner.

That meeting, on April 21, 1854, lasted about 30 minutes.

The modern County Commission’s regular meeting is scheduled to begin immediately after the re-enactment.

The re-enactment is one of several events planned to celebrate Androscoggin County’s 150th year.
