Here we go again. Why is it that whenever the state goes through a budget panic, services to those who need them the most are the first to go?

I have two chronically ill children, and I have spent years fighting to get and keep the equipment and services that they need in order to live a productive life. My family has private insurance through my husband’s job but should we lose it for some reason, MaineCare would be our only remaining option.

Surely there must be some other way to solve the current budget problem without tearing down a critical health care safety net. The elderly, disabled and low-income have enough challenges to face without having to fight over and over to retain their basic rights to quality health and life.

Or maybe that’s the whole point. Are we seen as an easy target because it is hard for us to fight back?

Targeting the neediest citizens for the highest sacrifice (our life and health) is shockingly inhumane. Enough is enough.
