WATERVILLE – Art works by Melanie Ness of Auburn are on display during April in the Thomas College Art Gallery.

Ness studied art at the University of Maine in Orono, attended seminars and short courses with Carlton Plummer, Marguerite Lawlor and Janet Condon of Maine College of Art, Jan Kilburn and has spend 10 years studying with Irene Duplissis of Leeds.

She has received a number of awards and prizes, including first, watercolor, Waterville Intown Arts, 2003; purchase prize, Art in Park, 2003; purchase prize, Waterville Intown Arts, 2002; purchase prize, Art in the Park, South Portland, 2001; and second, Maine Art Show, Poland, 2000.

A graduate of Edward Little High School, Ness holds a bachelor of science in food and human nutrition from the University of Maine and a master of science in human development, also from the University of Maine. She is a vice president and bookkeeper of Ness Oil Co., Auburn, a Ness family-owned business.

Ness’s art can be seen from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in the gallery on the second floor of the Main Administration Building on campus, 180 West River Road.
