FARMINGTON – People who want to support American troops and their families are welcome to join G.I.s and their families for a coffee house from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 9, at Old South Church on Main Street. The Once a Week Blues Band from Rumford will entertain from 7:30 until 8:45 p.m. Free child care is available.
Musical testimony
NEW VINEYARD – Open Bible Baptist Church presents “Yeshua,” a musical testimony of his resurrection at 7 p.m. Friday and Sunday, April 9 and 11, at the church on Barker Road. The public is welcome.
Genealogy session
FARMINGTON – The Sandy River Valley Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at the Farmington Public Library. The program will focus on “The how and why of deed research and its value to the genealogist.” Anyone with an interest in genealogy is welcome to attend.
Square dance
WILTON – Friendship Squares Square Dance Club will host an April dance starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Cushing School. The caller will be Walter Lougee and the cuer will be Scott Williams. All are welcome.
Sheriff’s debate
CHESTERVILLE – The Chesterville Grange will hold a debate for the three candidates for the position of sheriff starting with a free 6 p.m. supper Saturday, April 10, at the grange hall.
The meal will be followed by the debate. This is open to the public.
Bread sale
FARMINGTON – St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will hold its annual Easter bread sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 10, at the Twice Sold Tales Book Store on Main Street.
Pie sale
WILTON – An Easter roll and pie sale will be held from 9 a.m. until sold out Saturday, April 10, at the Wilton United Methodist Church.
Public supper
WILTON – The First Apostolic Church will hold a public supper from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at the church. Menu includes baked beans, hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw, breads and rolls and desserts. The supper will benefit the church building fund. Adults, $5; children 11 and up, $5; children 10 and under, $3.
Easter services
WILTON – As Holy Week culminates in Easter, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will offer the following Easter services.
• The Great Vigil at 8 p.m. Saturday. Fire is kindled in the dark and the paschal candle lit, symbolizing the resurrection. Lessons from the scriptures are read. Baptismal vows are renewed and the congregation gives the Easter acclamation, followed by the gospel and celebration of the Eucharist.
• Easter sunrise service at 6 a.m. Sunday, on Voter Hill. This is an ecumenical service at which people and congregations from the Farmington area greet the Easter dawn.
• Holy communion at 8 a.m. Sunday.
• Easter Day Festival Eucharist at 10 a.m. Sunday Hymns, lilies, and the Easter gospel proclaim that Christ is risen. Following the service there is an Easter egg hunt for younger children.
Easter dinner
NEW SHARON – An Easter dinner will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 11, at the New Sharon Methodist Church. It will be $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 years and under. It is sponsored by the Square and Compass Club to benefit their new Masonic building fund.
Easter services
INDUSTRY – Easter services for the Starks and West Mills Community churches include a sunrise service at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, April 11, at the Nutting residence on Seavey Road. An Easter breakfast will be held at 7:30 at Memorial Hall on Route 43 in Starks. Easter morning worship will be held at 10 a.m. at the West Mills Community Church on Route 148. FARMINGTON – Luncheon reservations for the Franklin County Unit of the Maine Education Association of Retired teacher’s April meeting will be accepted until Monday, April 12. Historical society
FARMINGTON – The Farmington Historical Society will meet on Monday, April 12, at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church on Academy Street. There will be potluck supper at 6 p.m. followed by a business meeting and program at 7 p.m. The program subject, Farmington during the WWI era, was researched by some students at the University of Maine at Farmington. Luann Yetter, who writes a history column for the Sun Journal, will make the presentation. Guests and new members are welcome.

Library auction
WILTON – The Wilton Free Public Library will hold a silent auction for one of the old library tables from the children’s room. The table is solid oak and measures 36 inches wide by 60 inches long and is 28 inches high. There are no chairs available. Those interested in bidding on the table may stop by the library. Bidding closes at 3 p.m. April 15. The money raised form the sale of this table will benefit the building project.
Kids Stuff
FARMINGTON – Donations of clean toys and children’s clothing are being accepted for the 3rd annual Kids Stuff Sale. Items may be left until April 15 at collection boxes at the Better Living Center, Howard’s Rexall and the UMF Fitness Center. The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, on the lawn of Old South Church on Main Street. Proceeds will provide camp scholarships for local children. Along with the sale of used toys and children’s clothing, there will also be a silent auction and bake sale. Scholarship applications for children ages 3 to 6 are available at the Children’s Task Force or contact Barb Marshall at 779-0589 for more information. The event is co-sponsored by the Franklin County Children’s Task Force and Western Maine Children’s Camp Scholarship Fund.
