FARMINGTON – A decision upholding the town’s position on the Hovey road case means taxpayers will save an estimated $56,000 to rebuild it and $2,500 annually to maintain it.
The only thing Town Manager Richard Davis wasn’t sure of was whether Perry Lamb, who took the town to court over the discontinued road, would appeal the decision over damages.
After having the property appraised, Davis said the town decided there were no damages.
Farmington spent an estimated $50,000 total, Davis said, for all four roads Lamb initially sued Farmington, New Sharon and Franklin County commissioners over in 1999.
The court favored the towns in all four cases.
Town attorney Frank Underkuffler said at Farmington’s March town meeting that between $5,000 to $6,000 was spent solely on the Hovey Road case.
“A good investment,” Davis called that. It was estimated it would have cost the town “well over $400,000” to fix all the roads, Davis said.
Lamb was unavailable for comment Thursday.
