PORTLAND (AP) – A fishing vessel that lost its steering about 140 miles east of Cape Ann, Mass., was being towed back to Portland on Thursday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The Cheryl Kay, a 56-foot gillnetter, notified the Canadian coast guard Wednesday that it was having problems. A 110-foot U.S. Coast Guard cutter, the Jefferson Island, was diverted a day later to assist the boat.

No injuries were reported.

As of 2 p.m. Thursday, the boat was 100 miles southeast of Portland and being towed at 6 knots. The boat was expected to arrive Friday morning in Portland Harbor, said Amy Thomas, a Coast Guard spokeswoman.
