CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Israel Vibrations with Roots Radic will perform along with four other nationally renowned artists April 15-18 at the 16th annual Budweiser Reggae Fest at Sugarloaf/USA. Joining Israel Vibrations throughout the weekend will be fellow headliners One People, Anthem, Jah Spirit and Mystic Vibes.

Making up Israel Vibrations are Cecil Spence (Skelly) and Lascelle Bulgin (Wiss), both of whom were born in Jamaica and suffer from polio. Their decadeslong friendship began at a rehabilitation center where they began their music careers. Since 1988, they have released a number of albums, including “Jericho” in 2000. The album has been called their strongest work in years.

Boston’s One People is a quintet of singers and players whose repertoire features styles as varied as roots reggae, dance hall reggae, hip hop, rock, funk, free form dub, and original version arrangements and compositions.

The springtime reggae festival at Sugarloaf got its start in 1987 as a way to celebrate the changing of the seasons and to enjoy the deep snow and warm sun that define spring skiing and riding. Today, the event draws 10,000 or more reggae and spring skiing fans.

Festivities will get under way Thursday night, April 15, with Mystic Vibes in the Widowmaker Lounge. The main event, featuring Israel Vibrations and One People, is slated for Friday night in the King Pine room.

On Saturday, Mystic Vibes, Jah Spirit, One People and Anthem will perform outside on The Beach in front of the Base Lodge. After dark One People and Anthem will perform in the King Pine room and Jah Spirit will play upstairs in the Widowmaker.
