“Feds cut money for poor students” (April 6). This will be a big political move for Mr. Bush. The states with low electoral voting powers (Maine) will lose millions while Florida, Texas and California will gain millions.

This is the president who instituted the No Child Left Behind law. Making a law is easy; providing the funds for it is another story.

President Bush, after months of propaganda on nuclear weapons in Iraq, said we must save America by destroying them. After no weapons were found, Mr. Bush had the audacity to joke about the absent weapons. This was said while our troops are dying.

The Republican Party, mostly composed of Christian conservatives, opposes abortions while they are praising the killings of innocent Iraqis by supporting Bush. This same group is flocking to see “The Passion of the Christ,” watching the gruesome bloody mess inflicted on Jesus claiming they will become better human beings after viewing this film.

Another young man was badly beaten and tied to a fence to die. Where was the uproar? Matthew Shepard was just a young gay man. One must never forget, “Whatsoever you do to the least of your brother, that you do unto me.” Will the Christian conservatives have a change of heart granting gays equality? I doubt it. They prefer freeing Iraq from a mean dictator.

If Maine is not worthy of federal monies to help our poor students, then “As Maine goes, so does the nation.”

Time to vote Bush out of office.
