I would like to respond to the syndicated writer John Leo’s April 4 column in which he is critical of the Sierra Club for attempting to keep a neutral policy toward immigration by opposing petition candidates with an opposing agenda.
He fails to mention that Dick Lamm, Frank Morris and David Pimentel, by their own admission, have never held elected or appointed positions in the Sierra Club before. Now they are attempting to hijack an organization and alter its policy. Not surprisingly, the Sierra Club is fighting to retain its mission of protecting the environment.
The real environmental outrage is the Bush administration’s contempt for clean air and water regulation and its secretive energy policy, a sellout to special interests. Why doesn’t Leo complain about that?
