LOWELL, Mass. (AP) – Alexander Semin’s goal with 2:43 left in regulation snapped a tie and lifted the Portland Pirates to a 3-2 victory over Lowell on Saturday night.
Semin snuck behind the Lowell defense, took a pass from Jason Ulmer, and beat Jamie Storr with a wrist shot. It was the second goal of the game for Semin, who scored 22 points in 50 games with the Washington Capitals this season.
Maxime Ouellet made 16 saves for Portland (31-27-13-8).
Also scoring for the Pirates was Ulmer, who opened the game’s scoring in the first period.
Lowell received goals from Chris McNamara and captain Matt Davidson, but they weren’t enough to prevent the Lock Monsters from ending the season on an eight-game losing streak.
Storr finished with 23 saves for Lowell (32-36-6-6).
