NEW PORTLAND – Paul D. Haley Sr., 61, of Farmington, died Friday, April 9, at his beloved “camp” in New Portland.
He was born Feb. 23, 1943, in Farmington, a son of Stephen W. and Ruth P. (Boulter) Haley. He was educated in Farmington Schools graduating from Farmington High School in the class of 1961. He married Mary E. Maxham, August 5, 1961 in Farmington.
At a very young age, he went to work for Gladys Bailey on the Bailey Farm, Bailey Hill. From there he lived and worked on the Phil Pillsbury farm during his high school years, and lived there for four more years with his wife Mary. In 1965, he went to work for Bouffards Furniture and was with them for eight years. From there he went to work for L.C. Andrews as a road salesman selling building materials to contractors, when they went out of business he stayed on with P.F. O’Connors for a short time, he then went to Yarmouth and worked for D. & S. Corp, came back and went to work for Hancock Lumber in South Paris again as a road salesman. He also worked a short time for Cousineau Lumber. From 1990 to the present, he and Mary went to work for Dan & Scott Adams, managing the Farmington Motel.
He was a charter member of the Farmington Elks #2430. He was a Past Exalted Ruler and a former trustee. On Jan. 13, 2004 he received an Honorary Life Membership from the Farmington Elks. He also received his 35 year certificate. He was a long life member and the Assistant Fire Chief of the West Farmington Fire Dept.
In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling, and hunting and up until his illness he enjoyed golfing and snowmobiling. He looked forward to going to “camp”, sitting on the deck and watching the deer. He and Mary enjoyed riding the back roads of Maine looking for moose and usually would end up saying “you can get there from here.”
He will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends, who came faithfully to see him during his illness.
He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Mary E. Haley of Farmington; three sons, Paul Jr. of Farmington, Michael S. and companion, Patrick Bourque of Springvale and Stephen M. and wife, Angela of Farmington; a daughter, Marcia A. Oliver and husband, Michael of Chesterville; three brothers, Mark S. Haley of Owls Head, Robert S. Haley and wife, Elaine of Jay and Gary B. and wife, Linda of Auburn; two sisters, Joyce M. Cote of Lewiston and Janice R. Haley of Lewiston; six grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Derek, Christina, Joe, and Emily; a great-granddaughter, Autumn and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Stephen Haley, Sept. 19, 1966; his mother, Ruth Haley, March 7, 1984; a granddaughter, Morgan Elizabeth Haley, Nov. 12, 1995 and his brother, David B., June 2001.
