There’s no place like home for Cleveland.
CLEVELAND – No extra innings. No wasted chances. No bullpen implosion.
The Cleveland Indians waited until they were home to have a fairly routine game.
Travis Hafner hit a grand slam and Cliff Lee pitched six innings with help from his infield as the Indians won their home opener, 6-3 over the Minnesota Twins on Monday.
During pregame ceremonies, the Indians celebrated their first 10 years at Jacobs Field by unveiling a new $7 million scoreboard that livens up the ballpark.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Pinch-hitter Brad Fullmer burned his former team with a three-run double that capped a five-run sixth inning, and the Texas Rangers beat the Anaheim Angels 7-6 on Monday night.
Hank Blalock was 3-for-5 with a go-ahead two-run single, and finished the four-game series with 10 hits.
Mets 10, Braves 6
NEW YORK – The New York Mets hardly missed Mike Piazza and Cliff Floyd in their home opener.
Newcomers Kaz Matsui and Mike Cameron each drove in two runs, Steve Trachsel was terrific on the mound and at the plate, and the Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 10-6 Monday.
Todd Zeile added three hits as a makeshift Mets lineup roughed up former teammate Mike Hampton in building a 10-0 lead.

Charles Johnson had two hits and three RBIs for Colorado.

Pirates 13, Cubs 2
CHICAGO – Greg Maddux’s Wrigley Field homecoming with the Chicago Cubs was upstaged by Kris Benson.
Benson allowed one hit in six superb innings, outpitching a wild and ineffective Maddux as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cubs 13-2 Monday in Chicago’s first game at Wrigley Field since losing last year’s NL championship series.
Reds 4, Phillies 1
PHILADELPHIA – New stadium, same old Phillies.
Paul Wilson allowed just one run over 7 1-3 innings, and the Cincinnati Reds beat Philadelphia 4-1 Monday in the first game at Citizens Bank Park, triggering boos from Phillies’ fans frustrated by the team’s slow start.
D’Angelo Jimenez got the first hit, a ground-rule double down the right-field line on the fourth pitch of the game from Randy Wolf. Bobby Abreu hit the first home run, the only bright spot for a dismal Phillies’ offense that has scored 16 runs in seven games.
Astros 10, Cardinals 5
ST. LOUIS – Richard Hidalgo hit a three-run home run and broke an eighth-inning tie with a sacrifice fly to help the Houston Astros beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-5 Monday night.
