AUGUSTA – The American Cancer Society’s 26th annual Living with Cancer Conference will take place from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at the Augusta Civic Center. The statewide session will bring together people with cancer, their families, friends and medical professionals.

The theme is “Caregivers: A Source of Strength.” David Treadwell of Brunswick will be keynote speaker. He is a professional writer who has also been a caregiver to three family members with cancer: his wife, brother and niece. Treadwell will reflect on caregiving for family members who have cancer. He said, “Writing is also a way of expressing myself when tragedy strikes those close to me.”

Some of the topics in the 21 workshops will include issues of caregiving, complementary therapies, palliative care, updates on treatment options and new technologies pertinent to men’s and women’s cancers.

There will be vendor exhibits and an Art from the Heart exhibit, a display of art created by people who have been touched by cancer.

Cancer survivors and their family members pay no fee, but may order lunch for $10. For other attendees the conference fee is $30, including lunch. To obtain a brochure or to learn more about the conference call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-464-3102, press 3, or 373-3708.
