LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club recently held its first fireside chat, hosted by Jan Barrett, president-elect, at the Ware Street Inn. The meeting provided an opportunity for Rotary members and guests to interact in an informal setting and to learn more about the local Rotary Club and Rotary International.
More than 30 Rotarians and guests had refreshments. L.J. “Mac” McPeake, past president, emceed the event and introduced several long-term members, who spoke about a specific area of club service or the services of Rotary International.
The celebration of Rotary International’s 100th anniversary in 2005 provided an opportunity for Rotarians to reflect on the organization’s successes over the past 99 years and to see how the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club, founded by Frank W. Hulett in 1917, has embodied the ideals and visions of Rotary.
The concept was developed by Chicago lawyer Paul P. Harris in 1905. An original charter members was Hiram Shorey, originally of LitchfieId.
