AUBURN – Dr. Lawrence Cohen, PhD, will discuss “Attachment and Loss with Children” at a professional conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 16, at Lost Valley.

Cohen said, “No matter what the specific diagnosis or presenting problem, attachment and loss are generally at the heart of our work with children and parents. How can we help insecure children find a safe haven so that they can work through the pain and trauma of loss, and be able to form healthy attachments?”

He added, “How can we help parents resolve their losses so that they can provide a secure home base for their children? And how do we address our own histories or loss and other disappointments in order to stay balanced in our professional and personal lives?”

A panel discussion will be held in the afternoon that will address the subjects of separation and divorce, children with illnesses, foster care, adoption and the death and loss of loved ones.

Panelists from the Kids FirstSM Center, International Adoption Services Center, Center for Grieving Children and the Barbara Bush Children’s Medical Center will address the topics and will be available for a question-and-answer period.
