SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) – Miguel Cabrera hit two more home runs and Brad Penny allowed only two hits in the Florida Marlins’ 5-0 victory over Montreal on Tuesday night.

Cabrera has four home runs in his last nine at-bats and five this season. The 20-year-old slugger hit solo homers in the first and sixth innings, and had an RBI single in the third. He finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a walk.

Penny (1-1) retired the first 10 batters and did not allow a runner before walking Jose Vidro in the fourth. Orlando Cabrera followed with a bloop single to left, the Expos’ first hit.

After Penny retired the next six batters, Peter Bergeron singled to left in the sixth. Jose Vidro struck out and Bergeron was caught stealing to end the inning.

Penny pitched eight innings, striking out 10 and walking one. Tommy Phelps pitched the ninth.

Florida scored a run in the third. Juan Pierre hit a double and reached third on an error Bergeron in center field. Pierre then scored on Cabrera’s RBI single.

The Marlins added one in the sixth, when right fielder Carl Everett dropped a routine fly ball, allowing Mike Lowell to reach third. Lowell then scored on Jeff Conine’s broken-bat bloop single.

Florida also scored in the ninth. Alex Gonzalez reached first on a fielder’s choice, moved to second when pinch-hitter Wil Cordero was hit by a pitch, and scored on Pierre’s RBI single.

Montreal starter Claudio Vargas (1-1) allowed four runs -three earned- in six innings, walking two and striking out five. Sunny Kim pitched the last three innings, allowing one run.

Notes: Montreal 2B Jose Vidro showed his range and reflexes on two defensive plays. In the first inning, Vidro snatched Luis Castillo’ line drive going to his left, doubling Pierre, who was running on the play. In the fifth, Vidro grabbed Castillo’s liner going to his right. … Florida went 2-1 in its three games in Hiram Bithorn Stadium last year. … In the first three games in San Juan this year, New York and Montreal combined to hit only one homer, by the Mets’ Cliff Floyd. Cabrera doubled that amount in one game. … Montreal took extra batting practice Tuesday trying to fix the majors’ worst offense. … The attendance was 14,620.
