AUBURN – At least a half dozen people duked it out in the pouring rain on Main Street early Wednesday in a fight outside the Midnight Blues Cafe.
Police from three agencies swarmed on the scene at Main and Court streets just after midnight and attempted to break up the brawl.
By the time it was over, three men were arrested and a fourth suspect was being sought. Karaoke music inside the bar continued to play.
Witnesses said the fight began when one man hit another with the door as he was leaving the bar. The man who was struck on his way into the building threw a punch and the melee began.
It was believed six people were involved in the brawl although others clogged the sidewalk around the scene as police began to arrive.
One bar patron said friends of both the original combatants jumped into the fight in an attempt to even the sides or break it up.
Auburn cops were assisted by police from Lewiston and from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department.
Bar owner Paul Morency said the fight began outside the bar and that there was no trouble inside. He also advised police that the three people who were arrested were not welcome back to the business.
No one was seriously hurt in the melee. The names of the suspects was not immediately available. It was believed each was charged with disorderly conduct although charges were likely.
