LEWISTON – Anna D. “Tiny” Gilbert, 83, a resident of 22 Bellegarde Ave., Lewiston, died Tuesday, April 13, at Central Maine Medical Center, after a lingering illness, with family members by her side.
She was born in Lewiston, Jan. 27, 1921, the daughter of Ulric and Annie (Bradbury) Dionne. She was a homemaker and lifelong Lewiston resident. She was an avid candlepin bowler in her younger days. She enjoyed bingo, card playing and especially family get-togethers.
She loved the Red Sox and watching professional golf on TV. She was a member of AARP, Horizon 55, Holy Cross Seniors, Les Dames de Ste Anne of Holy Cross and Servants of the Blessed Sacrament.
On Jan. 30, 1939, she married Edward W. Gilbert at Holy Cross Church. He died July 21, 1998.
She is survived by six daughters, Gloria Beers, with whom “Tiny” resided, of Lewiston, Constance J. Walsh and her husband, Robert of Virginia Beach, Va., Anita M. Murphy and her husband, Patrick of Lewiston, Jane E. Burns and her husband, Stilman (Clay) of Lewiston, Donna L. Spugnardi and her husband, Theodore (Ted) of Harpswell and Susan A. Chase and her husband, Brian of Mechanic Falls; two sons, William R. Gilbert of South Paris and George E. Gilbert and his wife, Connie of Lewiston; four sisters, May Beaucage of Lewiston, Carmen Zadakis of Rumford, Fernande Lemelin of Lewiston and Pauline O’Connell of Lewiston; one brother, Robert Dionne of Lewiston; 28 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she was predeceased by four half-brothers, Rosario, Ronaldo, Felix and Armand Dionne.
