FARMINGTON – Chris Silva broke up a pitchers’ duel with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning to send Mt. Blue to a 1-0 victory over KVAC rival Lawrence in baseball action Thursday afternoon.
After Corey Boyker was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth, the Cougars (2-0) executed a hit-and-run, with Silva driving the ball to left-center to score the game’s only run.
Brian Wells tossed a four-hitter to register the win.
The Bulldogs’ Ryan Ackley went the distance, allowing two hits.
Oxf. Hills 6, Gardiner 4
SOUTH PARIS – Chris Henderson scored what proved to be the winning run on a passed ball to lift Oxford Hills to a 6-4 victory over Gardiner in KVAC baseball action Thursday afternoon.
Henderson drew a walk in the fifth inning, advanced to second, before scoring on the passed ball.
The Vikings (2-0) opened up a four-run lead in the second inning, highlighted by a Joe Baker double, and added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Kelvin Decato and Baker each doubled in the win with Baker adding a single.
Corey Tielinen notched the win with relief help from Baker in the sixth.
The Tigers (1-1) were led by Stefan Black, Nate Munzing, and Tom Colby, who each doubled.
Bridgton 13, Gould 3
BETHEL – Mike Gorman smacked two hits and Will Colon sparked a four-run fifth inning with a leadoff double to lead Bridgton to a 13-3 romp over Gould Academy Thursday.
Tom Gunning, who got the win for Bridgton (3-1), took a shutout into the sixth inning before the Huskies broke through for three in the bottom of the sixth.
T.J. Savage belted a home run, Karl Olson had a triple and Quinn McAllister doubled to lead Gould’s offense.
Olson and McAllister shared pitching duties for the Huskies (0-3).
Poland 10, Wells 1
POLAND – Max Levine and Kyle Purrington ripped RBI doubles to key a six-run sixth inning as Poland rolled over Wells 10-1.
Eric Piper chipped in for the Knights (1-2) with three hits, including a double. Alex Smith struck out seven and allowed three hits while notching the win.
The Warriors (0-2) scored once in the fifth to avoid the shutout. Kevin Hodson threw the first four innings, allowing four runs and taking the loss.
