Their kids suffered cuts and bruises.
FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) – A Rhode Island couple died Saturday after a rollover crash on Interstate 495, but their three children survived.
Mohamed Salim, 34, of East Providence, R.I. was driving a Ford Expedition in a construction zone around 1 p.m. when the vehicle swerved and rolled over, state police said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Zainab Marbrouk, 33, was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro where she died of her injuries.
Neither Salim nor Marbrouk was wearing a seatbelt.
Salim and Marbrouk’s three children, ages 4 to 15, were taken to the hospital for minor cuts and bruises. The children had all been wearing their seatbelts, police said.
“The importance of wearing seatbelts, especially with today’s tragedy, can’t be stressed enough,” said Sgt. Paul Letsche, a state police spokesman.
The cause of the accident was under investigation.
