FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) – DeWayne DeRosario and Alberto Alvarez scored goals two minutes apart in the second half to lead the defending MLS champion San Jose Earthquakes to a 3-1 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday.
New England’s Taylor Twellman put the Revolution ahead in the 50th minute, converting a pass from Joe-Max Moore.
San Jose countered when DeRosario scored off a bicycle kick in the 53rd minute. Alvarez then beat the defense on the left side in the 55th minute, converting a cross from Landon Donovan.
San Jose (1-1-1) scored again in the 75th minute when Donovan again beat the defense, crossing the ball to Brian Ching for the goal.
New England (0-2-0) is winless in its last eight matches against San Jose.
