FALMOUTH – Viola A. McCray, 83, resident of Northbrook Drive in Falmouth, died Friday, April 16, at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth.

She was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Rumford, a daughter of Howard and Mary Damon Burdin. She graduated in 1937 from Leavitt Institute in Turner and attended Acme Business school in Auburn.

Mrs. McCray served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and was discharged from her service in 1946.

She was employed for many years as a secretary for the Maine Insurance Company of Portland.

She was a former active member of the Falmouth Congregational Church. She enjoyed reading books and knitting.

She is survived by two sons, Gordon E. McCray of Augusta, and Ronald A. McCray of Falmouth; one daughter, Carol J. Mason of Falmouth; three sisters, Kathleen Shaw of Turner, Dorothy Reynolds of Strong, and Lois Norris of New Hampshire; one brother, Malcolm Burdin of Strong; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great step-grandchildren; and one great-great step granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon E. McCray, who died in 1971; a brother, Norman Burdin; and one grandson, Ronald C. McCray, who died in 2003.
