LIVERMORE FALLS – Town Manager Alan Gove said the Highway Department will begin pickups for spring cleanup week on Tuesday, April 20. This is earlier than first planned since the weather has been warm.

Citizens do not need to call dispatch to arrange for pickup this year since workers will begin at Gagnon Street and do all of the town, he said.

Gove emphasizes that the town does not pick up leaves – bagged or in piles – except for the odd stray one that might get into sweepings from the curb.

All that is picked up are yard rakings and brush, he says. The town will not accept limbs, trees, mattresses, furniture, tires, trash, appliances or swimming pools.

Those items need to be disposed of according to the town’s mandatory recycling and solid waste rules, which are available at the town office.

The manager reminds residents that the solid waste ordinance provides for a penalty for unsorted trash taken to the transfer station.

The hauler has only two choices when taking unsorted trash to the landfill: Take it home or pay a $50 penalty to leave it there.

“Sort it, recycle it, use clear bags, read the rules and follow them,” he advises. “Separate your trash or pay the fee.”

Regulations require that shingles, painted wood, wallboard, Sheetrock, furniture and bulky items all go directly to Jay.
