Tristan Ledwell’s father was using a truck to move brush at his home.
PORTLAND – A 3-year-old Minot toddler struck by a pickup truck in his yard last week was improving at Maine Medical Center on Monday.

Tristan Ledwell regained consciousness over the weekend after remaining in a coma since the Friday morning crash. Tristan was hurt when he was struck by a truck driven by his father, Todd Ledwell, police said.

Todd Ledwell was doing yard work, using the truck to move brush at his 325 Pottle Hill Road home. His son was playing nearby.

Police investigating the accident said that when the truck began backing up, the boy was well off to the side.

“The father looked away just for a second and that’s all it took,” said Androscoggin County Sgt. James Jacques.

Tristan suffered a head injury and was taken to the Portland hospital by LifeFlight helicopter moments after the crash.
