BERKLEY, Mass. (AP) – A small plane crashed into the treetops in a residential area of Berkley on Monday, sending the pilot to the hospital, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The Piper PA-18, a single-engine propeller plane, crashed near Holloway Street off Route 79 at about 4:30 p.m. with only the pilot on board, said FAA spokesman Jim Peters.
The pilot, who Peters did not identify, was taken to Boston Medical Center.
Peters said the aircraft is owned by Murray W. Randall, of Berkley, and a BMC spokeswoman said the hospital has a patient by that name in critical condition.
A message left at Randall’s home on Monday was not immediately returned.
A woman who answered the phone at Myricks Airport in Berkley said the plane crashed as it was landing there.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
