RUMFORD – The American Cancer Society has named Diane Mitchell and Peggy Briggette co-chairwomen of this year’s Relay For Life of Northern Oxford County.
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s national signature event, both an awareness raiser as well as a fund-raiser. This family-oriented team event brings participants from all parts of the community together in a “celebration of life.” Businesses, civic clubs, churches, friends and families take turns walking in relay fashion while they also celebrate the role the American Cancer Society plays in the fight against cancer.
“The vital research and programs of the American Cancer Society are leading the way to eliminating cancer as a major health problem,” said Briggette. “I’m proud to participate. More funds raised translate into more lives saved.”
Others serving on the Relay For Life committee, in addition to Briggette and Mitchell, include: Louanne Cameron, Gloria Carrier, Jamie Dayon, Priscilla Bickford, Judy Broomhall, Kathy Carey, Kim Chaisson, Cheryl Dickson, Sue Gaudet, Louise Jarvis, Jolene Lovejoy, Sherry Milligan, Bette Thibault, Dick Lovejoy, Joe McKellick and Evelyn Bodemer.
This Relay For Life will take place at Hosmer Field on May 21 and 22. To participate, people can call Diane Mitchell at 364-8358. For more information on cancer, people can call the American Cancer Society at (800) ACS-2345, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or visit www.cancer.org.
