WATERVILLE – The Maine Roadrunners, an area 16-under girls basketball team, took top honors at the recent YBOA State Tournament.

During pool play the first weekend, the Roadrunners won a pair, winning the first game 59-50 over The County. Alexa Kaubris (20) and Kristen Arsenault (19) paced the winners. Taryn Flagg chipped in with 10.

The Roadrunners rolled to a 59-25 win over KVAC Connection in game two. Arsenault netted 18 and Kaubris 15. Brooke Weston added 9.

The second weekend involved a medal round of single-elimination. Arsenault tallied 16 and Kaubris 12 as the Roadrunners edged the Western Stars 47-42.

Christina Mosher of the Stars led all scorers with 28 points.

In the championship game, the Roadrunners pulled out a 45-44 thrilling overtime victory over the Maine Thunder for their second straight state title. Arsenault led with 18 points. Kaubris added 13.
