GREENE – Frank Klicar will narrate his film, “Hawaii,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 22, and 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, April 23, at the Sawyer Memorial, 371 Sawyer Road.
Klicar will take the audience on a tour of all the islands that make up Hawaii. They will visit Kauai and Oahu, stopping off at Honolulu for sightseeing at Waikki Beach and the USS Arizona Memorial. After intermission they will go to Molokai, Maui and Hawaii (the big island) before returning to the mainland.
Klicar’s travels began when he was a youngster in the late 1940s. Since that time, he has visited more than 88 countries on six continents.
A native of Chicago, he received a bachelor of science degree in zoology from Roosevelt University. After attending graduate school, he served four years as a naval officer in an amphibious assault squadron in the Mediterranean and later in the Far East, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.
Klicar retired as a commander in the Naval Reserve after 22 years of service. As a civilian he was midwest group sales manager for American Express Travel and later director of public relations fo DuPage County, Ill.
His first film, describing a journey down the Pan American Highway, was made in 1967. He has produced more than a dozen full-length documentaries, which he has presented to audiences throughout North America.
When not on the lecture circuit, he produces educational and corporate training videos. His wife, Ann, a sales and marketing executive, is also a skilled photographer and occasionally participates in his travelogue productions.
Besides gourmet cooking and cross country skiing, his favorite hobby is astronomy, which he pursues from his private observatory at his home in Downers Grove, Ill.
