PARIS – “Rewinding to the Golden Age of Space Flight,” a public supper and movie night, will be held on Friday, April 23, at the Second Congregational Church, Main Street. It is being sponsored by the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Rocketry Club and the 4-H Educational Travel Team.

The supper will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the movies will follow. Cost is $5 a plate. Donations will be accepted for the movies.

Two one-hour movies will be shown – “Can We Do This?,” which highlights the Mercury and Gemini programs, and the second, which recaptures Apollo 11 and man’s first landing on the moon.

The supper will include salad, pasta, a choice of Alfredo or spaghetti sauces, or beans, rolls and a brownie sundae dessert. Families with three or more under 18 will receive a discount.

Those who would like reserved seating can purchase tickets at Hillside Caf, the church office or anytime after 3 p.m. on Friday at the church.

The fund-raising event will benefit the two groups who will leave on May 8 to spend a “Week in Space” in Florida. They will tour the Kennedy Space Center, hopefully witnessing the launch of a full-scale Delta II rocket on May 11, visit the Astronaut Hall of Fame, take a course on “The Dynamics of Technology” at Disney’s Epcot and investigate the “real” Florida.

The groups have been doing fund-raisers over the last three months to raise the $750 per student cost. There are seven Rocketry Club members making the trip with their adviser, Sandra Thomas. They are Dylan Shimamura, Sean Jordan, Colin Mansfield, Cassi Harney, Winter Lewis, Samantha Pulkkinen, Cordell Rodney and Heather Godwin.

The 4-H Educational Travel team, advised by Heidi Ricci, has 11 members going on the trip: Jenn Ricci, Rachael Ellis, Steph McCoy, Terra Thomas, Cassi Harney, Casady Girardin, Heath Blais, Donovan Dow, Tom Olmstead and Ryan Ricci.

Donations will be accepted at the supper, or they can be sent to the high school in care of the Rocketry Club.
