LEWISTON – Rene J. Chicoine Sr., 88, of 262 Main St. died suddenly at his home April 19.
He was born in Livermore Falls, Nov. 25, 1915, son of Arthur and Lydia (Ouellette) Chicoine. Mr. Chicoine has resided in this community most of his life.
During his career he owned and operated Chicoine Motor Sales in Auburn and Lewiston as well as Berlin N.H. While enjoying his semi-retirement he owned and operated Mayfair Furniture Co. of Norway and South Paris. He was also active in area commercial real-estate properties.
He married Isabel K. Price on Nov. 3, 1938.
Besides his wife of Auburn he is survived by two sons, Rene J. Chicoine and his wife Rosi of Auburn and Rangeley, and Kenneth P. Chicoine and wife Louise of Lewiston; three daughters, Carol Begin and husband Derwood of Canton Ohio, Nancy Dolan and husband Michael of Ottawa, Canada, and Sharon Wise of Winthrop; his sister, Fleurette Dumont and husband Norman reside in Lewiston; Mr. Chicoine enjoyed the company of his 15 grandchildren, Dr. Ronald Chicoine of Lewiston, Wendy Poutre of Stratham N.H., Jeff Chicoine of Lewiston, Nancy Scruggs of Auburn, Karen Edwards and Darlene Begin of Canton, Ohio, Lisa Baker of Fla., Christopher Chicoine of Newton, Mass., and David Chicoine of Portland, Dawn Wise of Turner, Holly-Wise Copland of Auburn, and Jay Wise of Westbrook, Natalie Dolan of Ottawa, Canada, Sean Dolan of Burnaui, British Columbia, Canada, and Patrick Dolan of Tokyo, Japan; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Chicoine was predeceased by one son, Ronald; three sisters; one brother; also survived by his beloved French Briard dog, “Ranger,” who was his constant companion and never left his side even in death.
