PORTLAND, Maine (AP) – Robinson Cano knocked a two-run single in the top of the ninth inning to propel the Trenton Thunder past the Portland Sea Dogs 7-6 Tuesday in the Eastern League.
Andy Phillips went 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer for the Thunder (5-4). Aaron Rifkin also homered for Trenton.
Mike O’Keefe had a three-run homer for the Sea Dogs (4-7) and Mike Campo drilled a pair of doubles.
The game was a seesaw affair, with the lead changing several times. Phillips doubled and scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning, then drove in two with a booming shot over the right-field fence in the eighth. Rifkin followed Phillips’ at-bat with a solo homer in the eighth.
Portland scored twice in the fifth inning, on a single, walk, error and Jesus Medrano’s sacrifice fly.
Entering the game as a pinch hitter in the eighth, O’Keefe tied it 5-5 with a three-run homer to right.
After Cano’s two RBI sent the Thunder ahead 7-5 in the top of the ninth, Campo doubled and scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the inning.
