STANDISH – John Lister and Nick Arno blasted RBI home runs to lead St. Joseph’s to a 7-0 shutout win over Bates in Game 1 of a baseball doubleheader Wednesday. Bates bounced back in Game 2 to record a 5-4 win.

Lister’s homer keyed a three-run fifth inning for the Monks (10-18) in Game 1, while Andy Exley went 2-for-4 in a balanced attack. Greg Kimball threw seven successful innings, allowing just four hits with no walks.
USM 13, Colby 2
WATERVILLE – Brandon Brewer blasted a home run, singled, scored twice and drove in three runs to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 13-2 win over Colby College in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon.

Adam Lemieux went 3-for-4 and Brian Marshall chipped in with a pair of hits as the Huskies (15-8) banged out 10 hits.

Josh Armandi picked up the win, going six innings before the relief corps sealed the victory.
Men’s lacrosse

Colby 6, NEC 2
PORTLAND – Mike Haines scored two goals and added two assists to lead Colby College to a 6-2 win over New England College in men’s lacrosse Wednesday evening at Fitzpatrick stadium.

Joshua Cleaver added a pair of goals while Tim Brown and Tucker Kelton added a goal apiece in the victory.

Matt Lapaglia stopped 13 shots to register the win.
Women’s lacrosse

Bowdoin 18, Bates 9
BRUNSWICK – The Bowdoin College women’s lacrosse team scored the first seven goals of the game and never looked back in an 18-9 defeat of Bates College Wednesday.

Hilary Abrams collected five goals, including four in the 7-0 run to start the game. Colleen McDonald also added five goals in the lopsided victory.
Softball

USM sweeps
BABSON PARK, Mass. – Katie Mainville and Melissa Henderson turned in outstanding pitching performances to lead the University of Southern Maine to a doubleheader sweep of Babson College in non-conference softball action Wednesday afternoon.

Mainville recorded nine strikeouts, one walk while surrendering four hits in the first game win.

Henderson was just as impressive, logging three strikeouts, two walks, and five hits en route to the complete game shutout victory.

Game 1 saw the Huskies grab a 3-2 lead after two innings as Renee Heath and Christen Lachappelle each recorded RBI singles in the 4-2 victory.

The night cap saw the Huskies complete the sweep with an 8-0 shutout. Heath went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

while Jessie Beecher, Emily Forbes, and Ashley Woodcock each added a pair of hits.
