RUMFORD – Anyone who wants to help get young people and senior citizens together is invited to a special brainstorming session at noon Thursday, April 22, in the community room of Sam’s Italian Sandwich Shop.
The River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition is sponsoring the discussion headed by Communities for Children and Youth, a state organization. Hopes are to gather ideas that would put the two age groups together for the benefit of both. The local Communities for Children cluster includes the greater Farmington, Wilton, greater Rumford, Rangeley, Weld and Carthage areas.
The session, complete with lunch, is free, but organizers would like to know the number of people who will attend. For information phone 369-0354.
Rumford: Hosmer Field cleanup planned
RUMFORD – People living in the River Valley have a chance on Earth Day, April 22, to join with the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition to help clean up the walking path and Swift River bank at Hosmer Field.
Coalition coordinator Patricia Duguay asks anyone interested to show up at the main entrance to the field off Waldo Street at 3:30 p.m. with work gloves and rakes. The coalition will provide water and light refreshments to all volunteers.
She said the flooding during the December rains resulted in a mess along the riverbanks. She also said that cleaning up the trail and banks may also draw more attention to the walking trail that now sees little use. One of the goals of the coalition is to get people out to exercise.
