LEWISTON – A pair of suspects remained jailed on Wednesday after police said they found them with bundles of heroin last week.
Christopher Loring, 24, of 27-2 River Valley Apartments, and Brandy Loring, 19, of 8 Harris St., Auburn, each was charged with trafficking in heroin.
The pair was arrested last Friday shortly after Lewiston police officers Tom Murphy and Todd MacWhinnie responded to a threatening complaint at River Valley Apartments.
Police said the officers found Loring in possession of a small amount of heroin along with syringes. Investigators said a search of the suspects’ car uncovered another 100 bags of heroin prepackaged for distribution.
Smaller amounts of the drug were also found on the suspects and drug officials said the heroin has a street value of more than $6,000.
The investigation was initiated by Murphy and MacWhinnie. They were assisted at the scene by an agent from the federal High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force as well as others from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Police used a drug sniffing dog from the Lisbon Police Department as they continued to investigate at River Valley Apartments.
The apartment complex is off Main Street and was formerly known as Tall Pines Apartments. The name of the development was recently changed.
Loring and Libby were each taken to the Androscoggin County Jail where bail was set at $15,000 apiece. They remained there Wednesday night.
Drug officials said although crack cocaine remains the drug of choice in the Twin Cities, heroin use and trafficking is an on-going problem in the area. In recent years, several overdose deaths have been attributed to a rise in the use of heroin or prescription drugs that mock its effects.
